Allie McGhee’s work changed considerably during his growth as an artist. When he started, he created expressionist and cubist figurative paintings. It was the influential sixties and seventies when artists mostly painted representations of human figures. McGhee later realized that abstraction was his true calling.

He finds inspiration through three key forms: expressionist, geometric and lyrical. His favored one is lyrical because music is a key element that has affected the realization of his works. Abstractions created by Allie are like jazz pieces, extremely fluid, free and often very dynamic and bright.

His paintings are in collections locally as well as nationally in museums such as the Detroit Institute of Arts and the Studio Museum in Harlem, New York.
